The Costa Rican Tour Operators Association (ACOT) is a private, non-lucrative entity, constituted by the highest qualified tour operators in the country. It is conformed by forty-eight associated companies, a seven-member Board of Directors and a fiscal. Since its beginnings in 1989, ACOT’s objective has been the promotion and development of tour operators’ activities; in general, such objective is broken down as follows:

To manage the social, cultural, educational, organizational and productive improvement of its members,

To encourage a spirit of mutual aid among its members, within a social and cultural frame,

To bring together and associate the various tourism operator sectors within the industry, giving them the necessary support and endorsement to promote national tourism— whether it be traditional receptive, cruise lines, scientific and/or any other form of receptive tourism— for which it will favor the technical development of the national tourism receptive industry.
In order to accomplish its objectives, the Association’s on-going activities include the following:

Lobbying for the conflicts and politics related to national tourism operators’ activities, within a legal and statutory frame;

Take initiative and active participation in the promulgation of laws that affect the Association’s activity, seeking the entity’s and its associates’ progress;

Ensure that the Association’s activity follows those ethical norms and principals that exalt professional dignity. To this end, a Professional Code of Ethics will be created and should be accepted by all members. The Association may acquire all types of belongings, at all times within legal limitations, negotiate any type of contracts and participate in all kinds of licit operations that contribute to the entity’s objectives. To this activity’s end it may additionally:

Promote the practice of sharing professional, technological and cultural experiences within the tourism field;

Promote and guide technical consulting efforts, for the improvement of services provided by the country’s tourism operators;

Promote its associates’ professional perfecting efforts, through the organization of activities such as congresses, seminars, symposiums and conferences among others;

Act as a mediator whenever professionally related differences arise between its associates and any third parties;
-
Promote a marketing strategy that goes parallel with the receptive tourism sector’s common interests.
